Who is Vulnerable?
Oracle Oracle Database Server 10g
Oracle Oracle Database Server 9i
Oracle Oracle Database Server 8i
Vulnerability Description
A remote code execution vulnerability has been identified in the Oracle Data Control (ORADC) ActiveX control. Oracle Objects for OLE is a COM-based database connectivity tool for accessing Oracle databases. The ORADC ActiveX control is provided by the Oracle Objects for OLE package. It provides data access and operation modifications on the backend database. By convincing a user to visit a specially crafted HTML documents or open a malicious web page, a remote attacker could execute arbitrary code on the affected system.
Vulnerability Details
The vulnerability is due to a validation error in the Oracle ORADC ActiveX control. The application fails to properly handle malformed arguments passed to a certain method. To trigger the vulnerability, an attacker can create a malicious Web page that initiates a vulnerable ActiveX control. Successful exploitation could result in remote code execution on the target system once the malicious page is loaded.

Protection Overview
By enabling this protection, SmartDefense will detect and block the vulnerable ActiveX Control. Depending on the traffic mix, activating this protection may result in performance degradation.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your VPN-1/InterSpect product to the latest SmartDefense update. For information on how to update SmartDefense, go to SBP-2006-05, Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

To configure the defense, select your product from the list below and follow the related protection steps.
