Vulnerability Description
A remote code execution vulnerability has been identified in Microsoft Word. Microsoft Word is a popular word processing software. A remote attacker could exploit this issue via a malformed Word file. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow execution of arbitrary code on a target system.

Vulnerability Details
The vulnerability is due to a memory calculation error in Microsoft Word that fails to properly handle specially crafted Word files that include a malformed CSS value. A remote attacker could trigger this flaw by convincing a victim to open a specially crafted Word file. Successful exploitation of this issue may corrupt system memory allowing execution of arbitrary code on a vulnerable system.

Protection Overview
By enabling this protection, SmartDefense will detect and block the transferring of malformed Word files over HTTP.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your VPN-1 product to the latest SmartDefense update. For information on how to update SmartDefense, go to SBP-2006-05, Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

To configure the defense, select your product from the list below and follow the related protection steps.

How Can I Protect My Network?
1. In the SmartDefense tab, click Application Intelligence > Content Protection > Block Microsoft Word Cascading Style Sheet Vulnerability (MS08-026).
2. In the configuration pane, under Settings > Mode, check Active.
3. Install policy on all modules.
