PNG Development Group libpng 1.5 series prior to 1.5.9
Vulnerability Description An integer overflow vulnerability has been reported in libpng, an open source implementation of the PNG specification.
Vulnerability DetailsThe vulnerability is due to a heap allocation in the function png_decompress_chunk(). Remote attackers could exploit this vulnerability by sending a specially crafted PNG file to the vulnerable service. Successful exploitation would allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code in the security context of the affected service.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block specially crafted PNG files.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your product to the latest update. For information on how to update , go to SBP-2006-05, Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the libpng png_decompress_chunk Integer Overflow protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all modules.
