Who is Vulnerable? Novell Netware 6.5 SP8 and prior
Vulnerability Description A heap buffer overflow vulnerability has been reported in Novell Netware.
Vulnerability DetailsThe vulnerability is due to the mishandling of the parameter string Caller Name by the application. A remote attacker can exploit this issue by sending a specially crafted NFS lockd request to a vulnerable server. Successful exploitation would allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code with root privileges.

Security Gateway R75 / R71 / R70

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Novell Netware XNFS.NLM Caller Name xdrDecodeString Heap Buffer Overflow protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all modules.
