Vulnerability Description Two stack buffer overflows have been discovered in HP Data Protector.
Vulnerability DetailsThe vulnerabilities exists in the CRS.exe service, which listens on a randomly chosen port. The application fails to sanitize input with opcode 215 or 263, which can result in two stack buffer overflows. A remote, unauthenticated attacker can exploit this vulnerability by sending a crafted request to the vulnerable service. Successful exploitation can result in arbitrary code execution in the context of the affected service, which is Administrator by default.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your product to the latest update. For information on how to update , go to SBP-2006-05, Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R75 / R71 / R70

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the HP Data Protector CRS Opcode 215 and 263 Stack Buffer Overflow protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all modules.
