  • Who is Vulnerable? DNS servers
    Vulnerability Description A denial of service vulnerability has been reported in DNS servers.
    Vulnerability DetailsThe vulnerability is due to the way that the DNS server improperly handles objects in memory. A remote attacker can exploit this issue by sending a specially crafted DNS ANY query to a DNS server. Successful exploitation would cause the server to crash, resulting in a denial of service condition.

    Protection Overview

    IPS will detect and block specially crafted DNS queries sent to the server.

    In order for the protection to be activated, update your product to the latest update. For information on how to update , go to SBP-2006-05, Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

    Security Gateway R75 / R71 / R70

    1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the DNS ANY Request Malformed Payload Denial of Service protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
    2. Install policy on all modules.

    SmartView Tracker will log the following entries:
    Attack Name: DNS Enforcement Violation
    Attack Information: DNS ANY Request Malformed Payload Denial of Service
