Vulnerability Description
A remote stack buffer overflow vulnerability has been discovered in Microsoft Windows Media Player. An attacker can exploit this vulnerability by enticing a user to open a crafted PNG file, resulting in the possible injection and execution of arbitrary code on the target system with the privileges of the currently logged-in user.
Vulnerability Details
The flaw is caused due to an improper parsing of chunk fields in Portable Network Graphics (PNG) files. An attacker can exploit this vulnerability by enticing a user to open a crafted PNG file, resulting in the possible injection and execution of an arbitrary code. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could cause the code executed to be within the privileges of the currently logged in user.

Protection Overview
This protection will detect and block malformed PNG files. 

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

To configure the defense, select your product from the list below and follow the related protection steps.

How Can I Protect My Network?
1. In the IPS tab, click Protections > By Protocol > IPS Software Blade > Application Intelligence > Content Protections
2. In the right pane, double-click the Microsoft Windows Media Player PNG Chunk Handling Stack Overflow (MS06-024) protection.
3. In the Protection Details window, click on Edit. Choose the protection's Action (Override IPS Policy with: Prevent/Detect), and apply Additional Settings
4. Install policy on all modules.
