Vulnerability Description
A remote code execution vulnerability has been reported in Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) ActiveX control pdwizard.ocx. ActiveX controls are reusable software components based on Microsoft Component Object Model (COM). A remote attacker could exploit this issue by convincing a user to visit a specially crafted HTML document or open a malicious web page. Successful exploitation could result in remote code execution on the target system once the malicious page is loaded.

Vulnerability Details
The vulnerability is due to an error in the ActiveX control. To trigger the vulnerability, an attacker can create a malicious web page that initiates the vulnerable COM Object. Successful exploitation of this issue allows execution of arbitrary code on the vulnerable system.

Protection Overview
By enabling this protection, SmartDefense will detect and block the vulnerable COM Object. Depending on the traffic mix, activating this protection may result in performance degradation.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your VPN-1/InterSpect product to the latest SmartDefense update. For information on how to update SmartDefense, go to SBP-2006-05, Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

To configure the defense, select your product from the list below and follow the related protection steps.
