Who is Vulnerable?
IBM "acpcontroller.dll" ActiveX Control versions prior to 1.2.8.0
IBM "acpir.dll" ActiveX Control versions prior to 1.0.0.9
Vulnerability Description
The Access Support software package for IBM and Lenovo systems includes several ActiveX controls. Multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in IBM and Lenovo Access Support acpRunner ActiveX control. A remote attacker could exploit this issue by convincing a user to visit a specially crafted HTML document or open a malicious web page. Successful exploitation could result in remote code execution on the target system once the malicious page is loaded.

Vulnerability Details
The vulnerabilities are due to multiple errors in the "AcpController.dll" control. To trigger these errors, an attacker may create a malicious web page that will exploit these vulnerabilities. Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code on the vulnerable system.

Protection Overview
By enabling this protection, SmartDefense will detect and block the vulnerable ActiveX Control. Depending on the traffic mix, activating this protection may result in performance degradation.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your VPN-1/InterSpect product to the latest SmartDefense update. For information on how to update SmartDefense, go to SBP-2006-05, Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

To configure the defense, select your product from the list below and follow the related protection steps.

1. In the SmartDefense tab, click Web Intelligence > HTTP Client Protections > Microsoft Internet Explorer Vulnerabilities > Block IBM (acpRunner) ActiveX Multiple Vulnerabilities.
2. In the configuration pane, under Settings > Mode, check Active.
