Vulnerability Description
A remote code execution vulnerability has been reported in CA eTrust Intrusion Detection. CA eTrust Intrusion Detection is a network intrusion management and prevention system, that includes real-time session monitoring and Internet web filtering capabilities. A remote attacker could exploit this issue by convincing a user to visit a specially crafted HTML document or open a malicious web page. Successful exploitation could result in remote code execution on the target system once the malicious page is loaded.

Vulnerability Details
The vulnerability is due to an error in the CallCode (caller.dll) ActiveX control that contains certain insecure methods, which allow loading of arbitrary DLL files and executing code from these DLLs. To trigger this issue, an attacker may create a malicious web page that will exploit this vulnerability. Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code on the vulnerable system.

Protection Overview
By enabling this protection, SmartDefense will detect and block the vulnerable ActiveX Controls. Depending on the traffic mix, activating this protection may result in performance degradation.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your VPN-1/InterSpect product to the latest SmartDefense update. For information on how to update SmartDefense, go to SBP-2006-05, Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

To configure the defense, select your product from the list below and follow the related protection steps.

1. In the SmartDefense tab, click Web Intelligence > HTTP Client Protections > Microsoft Internet Explorer Vulnerabilities > Block CA eTrust (caller.dll) ActiveX Control Code Execution.
2. In the configuration pane, under Settings > Mode, check Active.
