Vulnerability Description
A buffer overflow vulnerability has been reported in Symantec Veritas NetBackup, Backup Client Service (BPCD). Vulnerability Details
The flaw is due to a boundary error in the NetBackup service. The NetBackup BPCD daemon is vulnerable to buffer overflow when handling a malformed 'CONNECT_OPTIONS' request. An attacker can exploit this issue by sending a maliciously crafted overly long request to an affected server. Successful exploitation may result in remote code execution.

Protection Overview
By enabling this protection, SmartDefense will detect and block malformed 'CONNECT_OPTIONS' requests.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your VPN-1/InterSpect/Connectra product to the latest SmartDefense update. For information on how to update SmartDefense, go to SBP-2006-05, Protection tab and select the version of your choice.
