Vulnerability Description
A remote code execution vulnerability has been identified in Microsoft Word. Microsoft Word is a popular word processing software. A remote attacker could exploit this issue via a malformed Word RTF file. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow execution of arbitrary code on a target system.

Vulnerability Details
The vulnerability is due to a memory calculation error in Microsoft Word that fails to properly process malformed control words in Rich Text Format (.rtf) files. A remote attacker could trigger this flaw by convincing a victim to open a specially crafted RTF file in Word. Successful exploitation of this issue may corrupt system memory allowing execution of arbitrary code on a vulnerable system.

Protection Overview
By enabling this protection, SmartDefense will detect and block the transferring of malformed Word RTF files over HTTP. IPS-1 will detect and block malformed RTF documents.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your VPN-1 product to the latest SmartDefense update. For information on how to update SmartDefense, go to SBP-2006-05, Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

To configure the defense, select your product from the list below and follow the related protection steps.

How Can I Protect My Network?
1. In the SmartDefense tab, click Application Intelligence > Content Protection > Microsoft Word RTF Drawing Object Remote Code Execution (MS08-072).
2. In the configuration pane, under Settings > Mode, check Active.
3. Install policy on all modules.

2. In the Protection tree, click Application Intelligence > Badfiles, and select the RTF File Parser protection group.
3. Click CVE-2008-4025 Too Many Polygons Specified in Control Word (IPS-1 NGX R65 only).
4. In the configuration pane, under Settings, check Active.
5. Click on Install Policy.
