Adobe Shockwave Player 11.5.0.596 and earlier versions
Vulnerability Description
A memory overwrite vulnerability has been identified in Adobe Shockwave Player. Adobe Shockwave is a multimedia player that allows Adobe Director applications to be published on the Internet and viewed in a web browser by anyone who has the Shockwave plug-in installed. A remote attacker may exploit this issue to take complete control of an affected system.

Vulnerability Details
The vulnerability is due to an error in the Shockwave Player when processing certain Director Movie files. A remote attacker could trigger this issue via a specially crafted Director Movie file. Successful exploitation may allow the attacker to take control of the vulnerable system.

Protection Overview
This protection will detect and block attempts to transfer malformed Director Movie files over HTTP.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

To configure the defense, select your product from the list below and follow the related protection steps.

How Can I Protect My Network?
1. In the IPS tab, click Protections > By Protocol > Application Intelligence > Content Protection > Adobe Shockwave Player.
2. In the right pane, double-click the Adobe Shockwave Player Pointer Memory Overwrite (APSB09-08) protection.
3. In the Protection Details window, click on Edit. Choose the protection's Action (Override IPS Policy with: Prevent/Detect), and apply Additional Settings.
4. Install policy on all modules.
