Who is Vulnerable?
Microsoft Office Visio 2002 without patch KB979364
Vulnerability Description
A buffer overflow vulnerability exists in Microsoft Office Visio. Microsoft Visio is a diagram creation software for Microsoft Windows. A remote attacker could exploit this issue via a malformed Visio file. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow execution of arbitrary code on a target system.
Vulnerability Details
The vulnerability is due to a boundary error in Microsoft Office Visio when parsing DXF files inserted into Visio documents. This vulnerability may be exploited by remote attackers by enticing a user to open a maliciously crafted Visio file with a vulnerable version of the application. Successful exploitation of this issue may allow execution of arbitrary code on a vulnerable system.

Protection Overview
This protection will detect and block the transferring of malformed Visio files over HTTP.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

To configure the defense, select your product from the list below and follow the related protection steps.

How Can I Protect My Network?
1. In the IPS tab, click Protections > By Protocol > IPS Software Blade > Application Intelligence > Content Protection.
2. In the right pane, double-click the Microsoft Office Visio DXF File Inserting Buffer Overflow protection.
3. In the Protection Details window, click on Edit. Choose the protection's Action (Override IPS Policy with: Prevent/Detect), and apply Additional Settings
4. Install policy on all modules.
