Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description HP Intelligent Management Center (IMC) is a stand-alone, comprehensive management platform developed by HP that delivers integrated and modular network management capabilities. IMC Enterprise Edition is designed on a service-oriented architecture (SOA) using a business application flow model as the core and featuring an on-demand, modularized structure. The software is compatible with Microsoft Windows Server and supports the management of HP and third-party devices. HP Intelligent Management Center (IMC) provides features like resource management, performance monitoring, centralized reporting and administration control. The IMC software's modular design allows for the effective integration of traditionally separate management tools.A buffer overflow vulnerability has been identified in the image component of the HP Intelligent Management Center. When processing packets sent to port 8800/TCP, user-supplied data is directly copied to a stack buffer without boundary check. By sending a crafted packet to the target, a remote attacker can exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary code under the security context of the SYSFEM user.

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the HP Intelligent Management Center img Buffer Overflow protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:
