Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description GDI+ is a graphics device interface that provides two-dimensional vector graphics, imaging, and typography to applications and programmers. An integer overflow vulnerability has been discovered in the way that GDI+ handles integer calculations. The vulnerability is caused by a memory corruption when GDI+ improperly processes a specially crafted EMF image file. By convincing a user to open a specially crafted EMF image file, a remote attacker could exploit thie issue. Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code on a vulnerable system.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block the transferring of malformed EMF files over HTTP.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R81 / R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70 / R65

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft GDI+ EMF Image Processing Integer Overflow (MS11-029) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:
