Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description A directory traversal vulnerability has been reported in HP Data Protector's backup client service. HP Data Protector is an automatic data backup and recovery software solution, for applications in both physical and virtual environments. The vulnerability is due to insufficient sanitization in the service, specifically while handling GET_FILE type messages. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a crafted request to an affected server. Successful exploitation may allow an attacker to retrieve or view arbitrary files from the affected target server.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block attempts to transfer malicious requests.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the HP Data Protector Backup Client Service GET_FILE Directory Traversal protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:
