A cross-site scripting vulnerability has been reported in Microsoft SharePoint.

Vulnerability Details
The vulnerability is caused due to an error in the way that SharePoint handles malicious JavaScript elements contained within a specially crafted URL. A remote attacker may exploit this issue by enticing a user to click a specially crafted URL which leads to a targeted SharePoint site. Successful exploitation could allow an attacker to view user information that was not intended to be disclosed. An attacker may also leverage this vulnerability to issue SharePoint commands in the context of the authenticated user on the targeted SharePoint site.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

How Can I Protect My Network?

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft SharePoint inplview.aspx Cross-Site Scripting (MS12-011) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all modules.

SmartView Tracker will log the following entries:

How Can I Protect My Network?

  1. In the IPS-1 Policy Manager, click on the Protection tab.
  2. In the Protection tree, click Web Intelligence > WWW 2 , and select the XSS Attacks protection group.
  3. Click Microsoft SharePoint inplview.aspx Cross-Site Scripting (MS12-011) ".
  4. In the configuration pane, under Settings, check Active.
  5. Click on Install Policy.

How Do I Know if My Network is Under Attack?
Upon attack, the following entries will be logged:

Alert Name: XSS Attacks.
Description: Microsoft SharePoint inplview.aspx Cross-Site Scripting (MS12-011).
