Who is Vulnerable? Symantec Web Gateway 5.0.3.18 prior to database update 5.0.0.438
Vulnerability Description A remote command execution vulnerability has been reported in Symantec Web Gateway.
Vulnerability DetailsThe vulnerability is due to improper input validation. A remote attacker can exploit this issue by sending a malicious HTTP request containing a specially crafted parameter to the target server. Successful exploitation would result in execution of arbitrary commands in the security context of the affected server.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block the transferring of specially crafted HTTP requests.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your product to the latest update. For information on how to update , go to SBP-2006-05, Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R75 / R71 / R70

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Symantec Web Gateway pbcontrol.php Command Injection protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all modules.
