Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description A code execution vulnerability has been reported in Microsoft Office Excel. The vulnerability is due to an error in Microsoft Office Excel that fails to properly parse the Excel spreadsheet file format. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by convincing a victim to open a specially crafted Excel spreadsheet file that includes a malformed SXDB record. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the affected system.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R70 / R71 / R75 and above

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft Office Excel Cache Code Execution - Ver2 protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all modules.
