Who is Vulnerable?
Microsoft IIS 4.0 and 5.0.
Vulnerability Description A directory traversal vulnerability has been reported in Microsoft IIS. The vulnerability is due to an input validation error in Microsoft IIS that does not properly sanitize the URI for directory traversal patterns. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability would allow the attacker to execute arbitrary code in the target. This protection was previously known as Nimda 1.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R70 / R71 / R75 and above

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft IIS Input Validation Directory Traversal protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all modules.
