There exists a stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability in VERITAS NetBackup Enterprise Server. The flaw is caused by insufficient boundary checks when processing user supplied message. An unauthorized attacker may leverage this vulnerability to inject and execute arbitrary code on the target system.In a simple attack case, the vulnerable VERITAS Volume Manager Daemon service will terminate, causing a denial of service condition. In a more sophisticated attack, involving code injection, arbitrary code is executed in the security context of the System account.
This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.
