Who is Vulnerable? IBM Tivoli Storage Manager FastBack prior to 6.1.11.1
Vulnerability Description A stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability exists in IBM Tivoli Storage Manager FastBack Mount. The vulnerability is due to insufficient input validation of opcode 0x09 messages before copying user-supplied data into a stack buffer. A remote unauthenticated attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending crafted requests to port 30051/TCP. Successful exploitation can result in arbitrary code execution within the security context of the System user.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager FastBack Mount Opcode 0x09 Stack Buffer Overflow protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
