SmartUpdate
  • You can view service contracts within SmartUpdate, enabling you to quickly see which gateways are eligible for upgrades.
  • When you perform Upgrade all Packages all products are upgraded to the latest SmartCenter Server version. At this point, this process upgrades both the software packages and its related HFA (that is, the most up to date HFA is installed). Once the process is over, the software packages and the latest HFA will be installed on designated gateways.
  • SmartUpdate supports a new feature called Push Packages Now (Edge Only). With this feature it is possible to create a connection with UTM-1 Edge in order to access new (that is, the latest) software package(s). The distribution is immediate and the user does not have to wait for the fetch to come and get the package.
  • SmartUpdate can recognize gateways that do not have the latest HFA. When you right-click an HFA in the Package Repository and select Distribute, you will receive a recommendation to install a new HFA on the gateways that do not have it.
  • The SmartUpdate Tools menu contains a new feature called Check for Updates. This feature checks the web (that is, the Download Center) for new HFA packages available for any of the managed gateways and checks your repository for these latest HFA’s. If new packages exist but cannot be found in your repository a suggestion is made to add those packages to the repository.
  • With SmartUpdate it is possible to upgrade a remote Log Server. A remote Log Server is any Log Server installed on a machine that is different from the machine on which the Primary SmartCenter server is installed.
  • Packages can now be distributed to remote devices and then installed at a later date. This is beneficial in a number of ways:
    • The risk of a loss of connectivity during installation is minimized, as the package is delivered to the remote device before the remote install command is issued.
    • Upgrade performance is improved, as packages can be transferred in parallel to multiple devices.
    • The process is now more efficient, as it can more easily be performed after hours, when the load on the network is less.
    • Downtime due to upgrade is reduced
  • SmartUpdate can now upgrade remote devices to versions earlier than that of the management server. Earlier versions supported are R54, R55, and R55W.
