FTP Software and Check Point Software Announce Strategic Alliance

Andover, MA —

FTP Software, Inc. today announced they have signed a letter of intent with Check Point Software Technologies, Ltd. to embed Check Point's client encryption software into FTP Software's connectivity solutions. Check Point's FireWall-1 SecuRemote product, announced separately today, is designed to enable secure, private communications by mobile and remote users via dial-up connections through the Internet, either directly to the server or through the user's Internet service provider, extending the virtual private network to the desktop and laptop. FTP Software intends to embed this technology into future OnNet32 products enabling users to conduct secure remote access to their corporate servers that use the FireWall-1 network security solution.

FireWall-1 SecuRemote software, based on technology called "client encryption," is designed to enable Microsoft Windows 95 users to transfer e-mail and sensitive corporate data, such as financial data, product specification documents, and other information which is considered mission-critical, through their dial-up connections as safely and securely as they would behind the corporate Internet firewall. Previously, these transmissions had the potential of being compromised, jeopardizing the data sent or received by the user, as well as the overall security of the network being accessed.

The OnNet32 for Windows 95 and Windows NT networking applications suite connects PC desktops to the enterprise, Internet and intranet. OnNet32 provides enterprise, department and workgroup users with a 32-bit networking solution that integrates in one product full-featured TCP/IP 32-bit technology together with key 32-bit components for productivity and communication, connectivity and printing and file sharing. Additionally, OnNet32 features Internet tools including the enhanced Mosaic 2.1 browser supporting formatting extensions for HTML 3.0, Gopher, Internet Relay Chat, Newsreader and Internet Registration Wizard for easy, pre-configured access to service providers.

"Our customers depend on the Internet to connect with business partners and as more employees become telecommuters security has become their primary concern," stated John O'Hara, director of engineering at FTP Software. "As the leading Internet (TCP/IP) connectivity company, FTP Software recognizes the need to provide its customers with the security features offered by FireWall-1 SecuRemote."

"The number of mobile executives and telecommuters doing business over the Internet grows daily, increasing the need to secure these transmissions of mission-critical data," said Deborah Triant, president and CEO of Check Point Software Technologies, Inc. "The combination of FireWall-1 SecuRemote and FTP Software's OnNet is intended to provide remote and mobile workers with an out-of-the-box solution to connect to connect to the Internet and secure their communications."
