Check Point Software Unveils FireWall-1 Version 2.1

Includes Extended Platform Support, Secure Remote Access Capabilities and Expanded Application Support

Redwood City, CA —

Check Point Software Technologies, Ltd. today announced significant enhancements to its award-winning Check Point™ FireWall-1™ software. Enhancements in FireWall-1 version 2.1 include Internet and intranet gateway support for Microsoft Windows NT, management console support for Windows NT and Windows 95, integrated support for FireWall-1 SecuRemote™ client encryption software on Windows 95 laptops and desktops, and extended application support including integrated support for RealAudio™, VDOLive™, Internet Phone™, and Oracle SQL*Net.

"As corporations adjust to the convergence of client/server and Internet computing, the components of enterprise-wide security are encompassing new elements," stated Dr. Deborah Triant, CEO of Check Point Software Technologies, Inc. "FireWall-1, version 2.1 provides these new security essentials by offering extended capabilities such as secure remote access for mobile users as well as expanded platform and application support."

Extended Platform Support-Windows NT and Windows 95
FireWall-1 for Windows NT provides corporations the same robust network security solution previously only available on UNIX-based platforms, including support for virtual private networking (VPN), user authentication and client authentication. FireWall-1 for Windows NT includes both Windows NT and Windows 95 graphical management interfaces, enabling system administrators to install, configure and manage the firewall either locally or remotely via a Windows NT graphical user interface (GUI) or remotely via a Windows 95 GUI. In addition, network managers can use the new Windows NT and Windows 95 management consoles to manage existing or new UNIX-based installations of FireWall-1, in a mix-and-match manner with their NT-based installations.

Enterprise-wide Management Capabilities
FireWall-1 installations on any supported platform including SunSoft SunOS and Solaris, Hewlett-Packard HP-UX, Microsoft Windows NT and Windows 95 are all fully interoperable, enabling administrators to manage any FireWall-1 installation from the FireWall-1 management console with a single, enterprise-wide network security policy. This enables companies with several FireWall-1 installations on different platforms to save time and money because network managers can configure and manage the enterprise security policy from one, centralized management station on their desktop.

Secure Remote Access Capabilities
FireWall-1 SecuRemote client encryption software enables mobile and remote Windows 95 users to connect to enterprise networks via dial-up Internet connections and exchange information resources as safely and securely as from behind the corporate firewall. Based on client encryption technology, FireWall-1 SecuRemote encrypts data before it leaves the laptop, offering a secure solution for remote access user-to-FireWall connections. FireWall-1 SecuRemote works in tandem with Check Point FireWall-1 2.1 for SunSoft SunOS and Solaris, Hewlett-Packard HP-UX and Microsoft Windows NT.

Extended Application Support
The extensible architecture of FireWall-1 provides secure support for more than 120 applications and protocols out-of-the-box – more than any other firewall on the market today. In addition, FireWall-1 is extensible, enabling administrators to easily customize the firewall to incorporate new and in-house applications. New applications now supported out-of-the-box by FireWall-1 version 2.1 include:

  • VDOnet Corp.'s VDOLive™, real-time video software
  • Progressive Networks' RealAudio™ audio-on-demand software
  • VocalTec™, Ltd's Internet Phone™ and Internet Phone Telephony Gateway™ Internet audio products
  • Oracle SQL*Net database access software
