Check Point Software Named Firewall Market Share Leader by IDC

Worldwide Market Share of 40 Percent Represents Significant Lead in Providing Enterprise Network Security Solutions

Redwood City, CA —

According to preliminary results from industry research firm International Data Corporation (IDC), Check Point Software Technologies, Ltd., is the market share leader among commercial network security firewall vendors. Check Point FireWall-1, the company's award-winning product, accounts for approximately 40% of the worldwide commercial firewall market, with more than 4,000 units shipped in 1995.

"Check Point's market share clearly positions them as the leader in the commercial firewall market," said Ted Julian, research manager for IDC's Internet Commerce research service.

"IDC's report clearly reinforces our position as the technology and market share leader in enterprise network security," said Dr. Deborah Triant, CEO and president of Check Point Software Technologies, Inc. "We expect that our growth will continue exponentially in 1996, fueled by the explosion of companies connecting to the Internet, as well as the enormous increase in companies creating Intranets and using virtual private networks within their organizations. " According to IDC, more than 75% of all web server software shipped in 1995 is being used for Intranet servers, and by 1999, this number will grow to more than 91%.

About FireWall-1
Check Point FireWall-1 represents a new generation of firewall technology, delivering unprecedented levels of security, user transparency, performance, extensibility and ease-of-use. Based on a unique architecture using Check Point's patent-pending "stateful inspection" technology, the product is the most comprehensive, easy-to-use firewall product available.

FireWall-1 overcomes the limitations of other firewall approaches by supporting all Internet protocols, services and applications out-of-the-box, and verifies data at all communication layers. In addition, FireWall-1 includes a scripting language that allows applications such as database queries and multimedia applications to be customized for the firewall. This flexibility, combined with its GUI-based rules editor, automates the task of establishing an organization's security policy. FireWall-1 allows the customized security policy to be created, monitored, and maintained from a single workstation, and allows network managers to configure and manage multiple firewalls throughout the enterprise from one, centralized management station.
