Memco and Check Point to Create First Hardened Firewall Solution
Unprecedented Security for UNIX-based FireWall-1
New York —
Memco Software Ltd. and Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. today announced that they are entering a distribution and integration agreement whereby Memco will resell Check Point's FireWall-1 network security solution, together with Memco's SeOS (Security for Open Systems), creating the industry's first hardened firewall solution using commercially available software. Memco's extended protection for Internet gateways with FireWall-1 through Memco's advanced UNIX security product, SeOS Access Control, provides a hardened firewall. The hardened firewall improves organizations ability to provide Internet access to their private networks, and benefit from the power of electronic commerce without compromising security.
"Security has always been an Achilles' heel for open systems. The lack of adequate security within organizations has only been intensified by Internet connectivity," said Eli Singer, Memco Software Inc.'s general manager. "The collaboration between Memco and Check Point brings together the industry's top host security and firewall technology to deliver a much safer Internet connection and a secured private network."
"Many of our customers have been requesting this additional layer of protection against unauthorized use of resources by authorized users to provide peace-of-mind," said Shlomo Kramer, vice president of product and business development for Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. "Together with Memco we can now deliver a scalable solution for these customers using commercially available, market-proven software products."
The Combined Solution - Hardened FireWall-1
Check Point FireWall-1 limits the access to resources on the
protected network and Internet gateway on which FireWall-1 resides
to authorized users. Memco's SeOS secures the operating system
and dramatically increases operating system integrity and reliability.
The combined solution is an enhanced-hardened firewall, combining
network and systems security. This advanced solution is flexible
and can easily be implemented on standard versions of UNIX.
About FireWall-1
As the first shrink-wrapped firewall package, and the first
to employ an easy-to-use graphical user interface, FireWall-1
is consistently recognized by trade publications and users for
its usability, flexibility, extensibility and high performance.
With more than six thousand installations worldwide as of April,
1996, FireWall-1 is more widely-tested in the field than any
other network security solution. Based on Check Point's unique,
patent-pending "stateful inspection" architecture,
the product is the most flexible, easy-to-install, configure
and maintain, firewall product available. More than one hundred
and twenty applications, services and protocols are supported
out-of-the-box, and administrators can easily customize the
firewall to incorporate new and in-house applications. FireWall-1
allows the enterprises customized security policy to be created,
monitored, and maintained from a single workstation, and enables
network managers to configure and manage multiple firewalls
throughout the enterprise from one centralized management station.
The product is also sold by SunSoft, Inc. as Solstice FireWall-1.
About SeOS Access Control
Memco's' SeOS Access Control dramatically increases UNIX security
and accountability, through a sophisticated, patent-pending,
resource access control mechanism which proactively overcomes
UNIX security exposures. While transparent to legitimate users,
SeOS prevents unauthorized users from accessing resources, actively
enforcing the security policy. SeOS normalizes UNIX security
by preventing abuse of superuser privileges and by shifting
authority and responsibility to accountable individuals. SeOS
increases the confidentiality of data and system files, and
protects all sensitive assets resident on UNIX servers. SeOS's
unique capabilities include real-time attack prevention, eliminating
Trojan horse and back door vulnerabilities.
Pricing and Availability
The bundled solution of Check Point's FireWall-1 and SeOS,
will be available from Memco Software starting July 1996 with
pricing ranging from $6,100 to $23,150 depending on network
configuration. For existing FireWall-1 customers, the hardened
firewall upgrade will be available from Memco with prices ranging
from $1,100 to $4,250.
