Check Point Software Announces Secure Support For Microsoft NetMeeting

Redwood City, CA —

Check Point Software Technologies Ltd., the market share leader in network security software, today announced that it will provide integrated, secure support for Microsoft NetMeeting conferencing software in its Check Point FireWall-1 network security software in the second half of 1996. Check Point is the first firewall vendor to announce support for this emerging standard in conferencing software.

Most Internet audio and video technology, including Microsoft NetMeeting, is based on both TCP and UDP-based protocols. This makes it difficult or impossible for most firewalls to support these technologies securely because their architectures cannot support UDP-based protocols. FireWall-1 is the only firewall on the market today that can secure both TCP and UDP-based applications and services and can add support for new applications such as Microsoft NetMeeting quickly and easily.

"The growing number of corporations deploying Internet audio and video technologies to conduct business and communicate with their global counterparts are demanding that these communications be secured through corporate firewalls," said Dr. Deborah Triant, CEO and president of Check Point Software Technologies, Inc. "Thanks to FireWall-1's extensible architecture, Check Point can provide secure support for new and emerging Internet applications, such as Microsoft NetMeeting, quickly and easily."

"Security is a key concern to our customers, some of whom need to transmit and share sensitive corporate information using NetMeeting, such as financial statements, product plans and manufacturing schedules, " stated Blake Irving, group manager of the Internet platform and tools division at Microsoft. "We are pleased to cooperate with Check Point Software to enable users to securely share sensitive communications with NetMeeting."

About FireWall-1
As the first shrinkwrapped firewall package, and the first to employ an easy-to-use graphical user interface, FireWall-1 is consistently recognized by trade publications and users for its usability, flexibility, extensibility and high performance. With more than 6,000 installations worldwide as of Q1 1996, FireWall-1 is more widely-tested in the field than any other network security solution.

Based on Check Point's unique, patent-pending "stateful inspection" architecture, the product is the most flexible, easy-to-install, configure, and maintain firewall product available. More than 120 applications, services and protocols are supported out-of-the-box, and administrators can easily customize the firewall to incorporate new and in-house applications. FireWall-1 allows the enterprise's customized security policy to be created, monitored, and maintained from a single workstation, and enables network managers to configure and manage multiple firewalls throughout the enterprise from one, centralized management station.
