Check Point Software Unveils First Shrinkwrapped Firewall for Microsoft Windows NT

Includes New Secure Remote Access Capabilities; Enterprise-wide Security Policy Can Now Be Managed from Any Windows 95 or Windows NT Desktop

San Francisco, CA —

Check Point Software Technologies, Ltd., the market share leader in network security software, today unveiled its award-winning Check Point FireWall-1 for Microsoft Windows NT, delivering the first shrinkwrapped firewall product on the Windows NT operating system. The announcement was made at the Microsoft Professional Developers Conference held here this week, where Check Point is demonstrating the product in Booth 114.

FireWall-1 for Windows NT provides corporations the same robust, proven solution previously only available on UNIX-based platforms, including support for virtual private networking (VPN), user authentication and client authentication. In addition, FireWall-1 for Windows NT includes support for Check Point's FireWall-1 SecuRemote product, also announced today. Mobile and remote users with Windows 95 operating system-based laptops and desktops can use FireWall-1 SecuRemote's client encryption capabilities to communicate securely with any Internet gateway with Check Point FireWall-1 software, either directly or through their Internet service provider, extending the virtual private network to the desktop and laptop.

"Customers wanting a low-cost Internet or Intranet server to reap the business benefits of connecting to the Internet can now do so in a secure and safe manner," said Dr. Deborah Triant, president and CEO of Check Point Software Technologies, Inc. "With FireWall-1, Windows NT users now have peace-of-mind that their network is secure from unauthorized entry, both internal and external, and that they can easily install, configure and maintain their security policy themselves."

Enterprise-wide Management from Any Windows 95 or Windows NT Desktop
FireWall-1 for Windows NT includes both Windows NT and Windows 95 graphical management interfaces. System administrators can install, configure and manage the firewall either locally via a Windows NT graphical user interface (GUI) or remotely via a Windows 95 GUI. In addition, because FireWall-1 for Windows NT is fully interoperable with FireWall-1 installations on SunSoft Solaris and Hewlett-Packard HP-UX, administrators can now manage all FireWall-1 installations network-wide from any Windows 95 or Windows NT desktop in the network. This eliminates the need for UNIX expertise to manage a company's security policy and enables companies with several FireWall-1 installations on different platforms to save time and money because network managers can configure and manage the enterprise security policy from one, centralized management station on their desktop.

"The availability of the market-leading network security solution on Windows NT eliminates one of the main barriers to widespread acceptance of Windows NT as an Internet and intranet server platform," said Ted Julian, industry analyst at International Data Corporation. "With FireWall-1 on Windows NT, corporations evaluating Windows NT can feel more confident about implementing enterprise-wide Intranet and Internet security using Windows NT." According to IDC, the number of Internet and Intranet servers based on Windows NT will increase more than twelve-fold in 1997 from 1995, and will overtake servers based on UNIX operating systems by 1999.

"We're excited that Check Point Software is making its FireWall-1 product available on Windows NT servers," said Mike Nash, group product manager for Business Systems Division at Microsoft. "Having a solution like FireWall-1 available for the Windows NT server platform will help customers."

Pricing and Availability
FireWall-1 for Windows NT will be available before the end of the second quarter of 1996. Pricing will be announced at that time.
