Check Point Software and VDOnet Partner to Bring High Quality Internet Video to Corporate Users
FireWall-1 Is First Firewall to Enable Secure Use of VDOLive Internet Video into Corporate Networks
Redwood City, CA —
Check Point Software Technologies, Inc., the market share leader in network security software, and VDOnet Corp., the leader in desktop video broadcasting, today announced that Check Point FireWall-1 is the first firewall to provide integrated, secure support for VDOLive, an emerging standard in Internet video from VDOnet. Support for VDOLive is available by downloading add-on code from Check Point's Web server (http://www.checkpoint.com) at no charge and integrating it into current FireWall-1 installations.
Until now, users behind firewalls could not take advantage of VDOLive, which is a popular method of creating video content on the Internet. Many Internet sites are beginning to offer a variety of video content which will be particularly beneficial to corporate users, such as employee training, product support and training and key customer information such as corporate presentations and speeches by company excecutives, financial news, and technical seminars.
"We are pleased to be the first network security vendor to be able to provide secure support for VDOLive, an emerging product that enables corporations and individuals to create and send high-quality video content over the Internet," said Dr. Deborah Triant, CEO and president of Check Point Software Technologies, Inc. "FireWall-1's unique ability to secure sessionless protocols, which are commonly used for audio and video applications, enables companies and individuals who want to use cutting-edge technologies such as VDOLive to do so safely and securely."
"We are excited to partner with Check Point to enable
secure use of VDOLive content into corporate sites," said
Asaf Mohr, president and CEO of VDOnet Corp. "Since VDOLive
automatically scales up with the bandwidth of any network, corporate
users who have access to T1 and ISDN networks will not only
be able to use video content from the Internet but will be able
to enjoy it at a very high quality."
FireWall-1's Unique Support For Internet Audio and Video
The extensible architecture of FireWall-1 has made it the industry-leader
in firewall solutions by providing secure support for the more
than 100 applications and protocols out-of-the-box and is designed
to allow administrators to easily customize the firewall to
incorporate new and in-house applications. Most Internet audio
and video technology is based on both TCP and UDP-based protocols,
making it difficult or impossible for most firewalls to support
these technologies securely, because their architectures cannot
support UDP-based protocols. FireWall-1's technology makes it
the only firewall product on the market today that can handle
both TCP and UDP-based applications and services securely.

About VDOnet and VDOLive
VDOLive is the leading real time Internet video technology.
It can provide video at up to 15 frames per second using a 28.8
modem connection. Moreover, because VDOLive is scalable, users
with high bandwidth networks can enjoy a higher quality viewing
of the same video content. VDOLive technology conquers the technical
challenges presented by the low bandwidth and complex communications
environment of the Internet because it is based upon two core
technologies. The first compresses video to run over the small
bandwidth portions of the Internet but also allows the quality
of the video to increase with the size and quality of the connection
at the other end. The second technology is a communications
protocol which maintains the integrity of the video as it makes
its way through the complex Internet.
VDOnet Corp., based in Palo Alto, CA, has developed and markets
VDOLive technology and products enabling desktop video broadcasting
and desktop video conferencing on the Internet and over regular
telephone lines and private networks. The company was founded
in 1995 and has offices in the U.S. and Israel.
