Finjan Software and Check Point Software Technologies Tighten Java Security

SurfinGate Java applet scanning integrated with Check Point's OPSEC enterprise security platform RSA Data Security Conference, San Francisco, CA January 28, 1997 -- Finjan Software, the leading provider of independent Java security solutions, and Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: CHKPF), the market leader in enterprise security software, today announced that they are working together to enable secure use of Java technology. Under terms of the agreement, Finjan will integrate its SurfinGate Java applet scanning technology with Check Point FireWall-1 via the Content Vectoring Protocol (CVP) in Check Point's Open Platform for Secure Enterprise Connectivity (OPSEC) architecture. The integration of the two products will enable corporations to take advantage of the benefits of Java technology safely and securely. In today's world of Internet downloadables, mini-applications like Java applets enter network computers temporarily when users access Java-enabled Web sites or use Web browsers such as Netscape Navigator 3.0. According to a recent InfoWorld survey, one out of every three sites on the Web is Java-enabled, and it is estimated there are more than 20 million people using Java-enabled Web browsers such as Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator. While this downloadable computing greatly expands on-line services, it also opens new security holes by automatically allowing unchecked applets into the network without any warning, announcement, or even opportunity for users to refuse them. Together with Check Point's FireWall-1, Finjan's SurfinGate technology eliminates these security holes by protecting against malicious Java applets at the gateway while enabling users to reap the benefits of the powerful Java technology. "Finjan and Check Point Software are at the forefront of the enterprise security industry and are bringing the world's leading enterprise security vendor and the number one provider of Java security closer together. Thanks to the integration of our two technologies, the corporate security manager can enjoy protection from a full spectrum of powerful enterprise security solutions," said Shlomo Touboul, CEO of Finjan Software. "Check Point Software has earned its reputation as an industry innovator in the enterprise security market, most recently with our OPSEC architecture, the first open enterprise security platform," said Dr. Deborah Triant, president and CEO of Check Point Software Technologies, Inc. "The integration of SurfinGate with FireWall-1 is further proof that the OPSEC architecture enables us to react quickly to emerging customer needs and easily plug in best-of-breed solutions across the broad range of enterprise security requirements." SurfinGate protects intranet and Internet users from automatically downloaded hostile Java applets that carry out malicious attacks, including industrial espionage, e-mail fraud, resource theft, or unnoticed alteration of information, among many other problematic and counterproductive activities. SurfinGate closely examines all Java applet content with patent pending scanning technology, assigns an Applet Security Profile, and allows users to choose what applet activities are allowed or denied accordingly. SurfinGate Technology Benefits:
