CHECK POINT FIREWALL-1 RECEIVES NETWORK COMPUTING EDITOR'S CHOICE AWARD FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW

Market-Leading Firewall "Continues to Improve" According to Reviewers

Redwood City, Calif. – February 13, 1997 -- Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: CHKPF), the market share leader in enterprise security software and inventor of Stateful Inspection, today announced that Check Point FireWall-1 for UNIX received the Editor's Choice award from the reviews staff of Network Computing for the second year in a row. The award was made based on a comparative review of firewall products published in the February 15, 1997 issue. FireWall-1 for Windows NT, which was evaluated by Network Computing for the first time received an Honorable Mention.

In discussing FireWall-1, Network Computing's editors stated that they "liked Check Point's FireWall-1 product when [they] reviewed it last year, and it continues to improve." According to the publication, FireWall-1 is "likely to be the ideal tool for enforcing and maintaining your security," and noted that its "Stateful Inspection architecture grants quick support of complex network applications, and its well-designed user interface provides a clear picture of your security policy setup."

Check Point's ability to provide "effective filtering for new Internet applications on its Web site within days of the release of new applications" was cited as a feature that is not available from the other firewalls tested. In addition it was noted that FireWall-1 "has the most extensive third party support" of all the firewalls tested, which they attributed to Check Point's leadership position in the market "as well as the fact that Check Point has written APIs to facilitate integration of these products."

The Network Computing editorial staff evaluated six firewalls on the basis of: access control, administration, logging, reporting, alerting, encryption, and performance, with FireWall-1 receiving the highest score possible in three areas: administration, logging, and performance. The UNIX version of FireWall-1 received an "A," while the NT version received an "A-."

"We are pleased that Network Computing selected FireWall-1 for UNIX as a winner in its Report Card," said Dr. Deborah Triant, CEO and president of Check Point Software Technologies, Inc. "This is the second year in a row that we've received this honor, and it's gratifying to be rewarded for our efforts in creating the most secure, flexible and easy to manage firewall on the market."
