TimeStep Partners with Check Point Software to Simplify Deployment of Secure Electronic Business Communications

San Francisco, Calif., --January 27, 1997 -- At the RSA Conference today, TimeStep Corporation, a Newbridge company, announced a partnership with Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ:CHKPF) to integrate the Check Point™ FireWall-1™ network security software into TimeStep's PERMIT™ family of secure virtual private networking (SVPN™) products.

Under the joint development and marketing agreement, TimeStep will embed the FireWall-1 Inspection Module in its TimeStep PERMIT family of products as well as resell the entire FireWall-1 product line. The PERMIT/FireWall-1 solution combines best of breed network security including access control and secure virtual private networking to provide a cost-effective, single device solution which enables organizations to easily deploy branch office internetworking and remote access securely. The combined systems will be available through Internet Service Providers (ISPs), telephone and cable companies, and Virtual Private Network Providers via TimeStep's InterSec ISP program (see separate release).

The combined PERMIT/FireWall-1 solution enables centralized management of the enterprise security policy and enables organizations to leverage the performance benefits achieved with hardware-based encryption systems while reducing the overall cost of ownership. Not only are intruders kept out of the corporate intranet, but data transmissions are also protected from interception both within and outside the company. For example:

Stock and bond traders can execute timely trades from home or virtually any other location using the PERMIT PC Client Software or PERMIT MicroGate system communicating with a Security Gateway at the head office. The data transmission is encrypted end-to-end and the systems resources are protected from outside attack by FireWall-1 software.

Telecommuting executives can protect their home computing site from snooping or attack and make sure that email and other data transfers are totally secure from outsiders or unauthorized personnel using a MicroGate running FireWall-1 software at their home and a PERMIT Security Gateway working in tandem with existing FireWall-1 software at the central site.

Availability and Pricing

Combined PERMIT/FireWall-1 hardware/software systems as well as the FireWall-1 Enterprise Management Console will be available in the second quarter of 1997 from TimeStep. Pricing will be announced at that time. The FireWall-1 Inspection Module for the PERMIT family of products and FireWall-1 Enterprise Management Console will also be available through Check Point Authorized Resellers.
