CHECK POINT SOFTWARE TECHNOLOGIES AND UUNET COMBINE FORCES TO PROVIDE SECURE VIRTUAL PRIVATE NETWORK ACCESS

World's Largest ISP Integrates FireWall-1 in ExtraLink Virtual Private Networks, ExtraLink Remote Offerings and Within Enterprise Networks; Increases Check Point's Dominant Presence Among ISP's

REDWOOD CITY, CALIF., -- June 16, 1997 - Check Point Software Technologies Ltd., (NASDAQ: CHKPF), a leader in enterprise security software, today announced that UUNET Technologies, Inc., the world's largest Internet Service Provider, is integrating the Check Point TM FireWall-1TM enterprise security solution in its extranet ExtraLink Remote offering as well as customer enterprise sites. This announcement increases Check Point's already dominant position as the security platform of choice for today's ISP and telecommunication service providers.

The leading network security software in the industry, FireWall-1 provides a wide range of robust features designed to offer the most powerful safeguards for today's enterprise security needs including advanced content verification security technology, authentication, encryption, industry-leading enterprise management capabilities, and broad application support.

UUNET's ExtraLink is a virtual private network service based on Internet technologies and UUNET's extensive infrastructure allowing businesses to use Internet protocols to communicate internally and with their external business partners. ExtraLink Remote provides an economical, integrated remote dial-in capability over the Internet using UUNET's dial-up infrastructure. The remote service benefits users with access at a fraction of the hourly cost of a customer-run modem bank or public value-added network (VAN) service.

ExtraLink Remote's base configuration consists of two components: the UUNET TCP/IP dial-up infrastructure and client/server software, which provides end-to-end encryption. User authentication is an optional configuration which allows the use of physical tokens used in conjunction with FireWall-1 SecuRemoteTM client encryption software to provide an extra level of authentication for access.

FireWall-1 SecuRemote extends the Virtual Private Network to the desktop and laptop by enabling mobile and remote users to connect to their enterprise networks via dial-up Internet connections -either directly to the server or through Internet Service Providers - and to communicate sensitive corporate data with safety and securely comparable to those behind corporate Internet. FireWall-1 SecuRemote encrypts data before it leaves the laptop, offering protection for remote access transmissions. In addition to providing a key component for UUNET's ExtraLink Remote, Check Point also provides standard firewall offerings to UUNET international and domestic locations for use with UUNET standard dedicated connections.

"We're pleased to extend our strategic relationship with UUNET to encompass Germany, the UK, and now, the United States," said Deborah Triant, president and CEO of Check Point Software Technologies, Inc. "It's a privilege to leverage the knowledge we've gained as the leading ISP enterprise security platform to provide enterprise security needed by the world's largest Internet Service Provider. We are looking forward to a long and fruitful relationship with UUNET."

Check Point FireWall-1 has become the preferred enterprise security solution for ISPs' managed service offerings as well as internal deployment within their networks due in part to the flexible, comprehensive OPSEC TM (Open Platform for Secure Enterprise Connectivity) architecture and Check Point's patented Stateful Inspection technology.

OPSEC is the first and only platform in the industry that manages and integrates all aspects of enterprise security through an open, extensible management framework. With OPSEC, ISPs and telecommunications providers can easily and seamlessly integrate a full spectrum of security applications to manage functions such as access control, address translation, authentication, auditing, accounting, encryption and content security such as anti-virus software, Java security and URL filtering. Check Point recently unveiled the OPSEC Alliance, an open, industry-wide initiative dedicated to providing enterprise-wide security solutions. Designed to ensure interoperability at the policy level between best-of-class, leading edge security products, more than 80 industry leaders have joined the alliance, signifying widespread commercial acceptance of Check Point's OPSEC framework.

Check Point's Stateful Inspection technology allows new applications to be supported virtually the same day an application is released. As a result, ISPs can add further value to service offerings by providing specialized application support, allowing their customers to utilize cutting-edge technology. Check Point's FireWall-1 has consistently led the industry in application support, securing hundreds of applications and services.

A key measurement for an ISP's future success is its ability to accommodate bandwidth demand with no service disruption, often called "Quality of Service." As ISPs focus on intelligent capacity planning, Stateful Inspection is a vital technology for high-performance security services as well. FireWall-1's INSPECT Engine provides the speed to make quick, bullet-proof security decisions based on the security policy and application-state information at the network level. Other firewall technologies have to stop, copy the intended transmission, inspect it through the application level, and then re-copy the transmission again to allow access. As ISP's upgrade to faster backbone technologies such as ISDN, high-speed xDSL technologies and dedicated access services that range from private-line connections to ATM, Stateful Inspection provides the speed needed to enhance high performance corporate connectivity.
