International Data Corporation's 1997 Global IT Survey Confirms Check Point Owns Seventy Percent of Asia Pacific Market
REDWOOD CITY, CALIF., – June 3, 1998 – Check Point Software Technologies Ltd.(NASDAQ: CHKPF), the worldwide leader in policy-based management for active networks, today announced that it captured 70% of the Asia Pacific firewall market in the last year. This statistic, based on the 1997 Global IT Survey conducted by leading computer industry research firm International Data Corporation (IDC), clearly demonstrates that Check Point is the dominant player in enterprise security in the Asia Pacific region, as it is in North America, Europe and Japan.
IDC comments on one of the primary factors which enabled Check Point to establish itself as the dominant enterprise security vendor. As stated in the report, "Marketing remains a key determinant of success…and it is here that Check Point has excelled. Check Point hasn't fallen into the "mud-slinging" trap of focusing exclusively on how secure its products are compared with those of the competition, but instead has focused on ease of use, complete network security, and interoperability (among other things)."
The report also mentions that education is the key to branding in the Asia Pacific region, and it is in this arena where Check Point also excels. According to IDC, "Check Point has established a policy of a no-hard-sell campaign in the region whose aim is to show businesses of all sizes the advantage and increasing necessity of a firewall within a business environment, whilst also subconsciously implanting a brand name image on their audience."
About the Study Methodology
The study findings are based on IDC's 1997 Global IT Survey, which is the largest survey project of its kind. The annual study consisted of approximately 3,500 in-depth interviews with representatives from small, medium, and large sized businesses in the Asia Pacific (excluding Japan) with the majority of respondents coming from the transport/communications and utilities industry. The survey included a question concerning 1997 anticipated firewall usage.
