Check Point Software Offers Industry-Leading Security Functionality to Automotive Trading Partners For AIAG's ANX Service REDWOOD CITY, CALIF., -- April 7, 1998 - Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq: CHKPF), the worldwide leader in policy-based enterprise security and traffic management, today announced that its Check Point FireWall-1 enterprise security suite has been selected to provide secure, reliable and manageable business communications for the Automotive Network eXchange (ANX) network. Created by The Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG), a not-for-profit association of North American vehicle manufacturers and suppliers, the ANX service is designed to provide the automotive industry with a robust, global network infrastructure that enables an emerging set of electronic communication services. "Due to the competitive nature of the automotive industry, security is a crucial component for the ANX network," said Karl E. Schohl, ANX business manager at AIAG. "We are pleased that Check Point's FireWall-1 has passed our most recent IPSec interoperability tests so it can provide ANX members with the high performance, standards-based security needed for secure electronic commerce and data transfer." Endorsed by such companies as Chrysler, Ford and General Motors, the ANX network is potentially the world's largest Virtual Private Network (VPN) and will cut costs by billions of dollars, essentially changing the way the automotive supply chain does business. Today's trading partners in the automotive industry have had no choice but to employ costly private leased lines while having to maintain multiple connections for various applications with a number of different trading partners to do business online. With the ANX service, each automotive supplier and OEM will need only a single commercial-grade TCP/IP data-transport connection to communicate globally with all trading partners. This connection will support file transfer, electronic mail, EDI, client-server and other applications used to move information in the trading partner community. As a result, a trading partner will no longer be forced to implement and support competing, sometimes conflicting, data networking strategies from OEMs and other trading partners. In fact, the AIAG predicts that the ANX service will save the auto industry millions of dollars annually by improving trading partner communications, simplifying data network connections and providing a foundation for future network and applications growth. "As the industry has migrated to more and more outsourcing of automobile components, the need is growing for trading partners to move away from provisioning data communications connections on a piecemeal, program-by-program basis toward a generic, permanent network infrastructure service," said Dr. Deborah Triant, president and CEO of Check Point Software Technologies, Inc. "To support this new way of doing business, the automotive industry needs flexible, responsive, high-capacity data-communications networks. That is exactly how FireWall-1 was designed, and why it continues to be the enterprise security platform of choice." Check Point FireWall-1 will provide ANX users with Internet, intranet/extranet and remote user access control combined with authentication, encryption, network address translation and content screening services to deliver an integrated solution that scales to meet the demands of organizations large and small. Only Check Point provides organizations with the ability to define a single, integrated, enterprise-wide security policy that can be distributed across multiple firewall gateways and multiple VPNs while enabling remote management. FireWall-1 is transparent to network users and delivers the highest possible performance across multiple protocols and high-speed networking technologies. All ANX products comply with the Secure Internet Protocol (IPSec) standard to ensure interoperability. The ANX service will promote security technologies to its members to support secure business-to-business communications worldwide among the automotive community.
