CHECK POINT FIREWALL-1 4.0 GAINS INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNIZED ITSEC SECURITY CERTIFICATION
First firewall product with E3 level certification across three key platforms REDWOOD CITY, CALIF., - November 9, 1998 - Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq: CHKPF) today announced that its Check Point FireWall-1 version 4.0 has become the first firewall product to be awarded E3 level certification for three platforms by the U.K. Information Technology Security Evaluation Criteria (ITSEC) Certification Body. The ITSEC certification provides an assurance of quality of technology-based security products, and is recognized by the governments of the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and the Netherlands, as well as the European Commission. Since March of this year, U.K. certificates are also formally recognized in Finland, Greece, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. In addition, interim recognition agreements have been signed by the United States and Canada, and Check Point is in the process of gaining ITSEC certification in Australia for FireWall-1. Check Point FireWall-1 is the only security solution to be ITSEC certified on Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 from Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT), Solaris 2.6 from Sun Microsystems Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW) and AIX Version 4.2.1 from IBM (NYSE: IBM). "To achieve E3 certification, which provides equivalent assurance to a B1 rating in the United States, requires a number of months of rigorous testing," said Tim Moore, deputy head of U.K. IT Security Evaluation and Certification Scheme. "It has become the level of security demanded by governments and large commercial organizations for Internet firewalls protecting their networks. System integrators and users can be assured that this evaluation addressed the core elements of FireWall-1, including Check Point's patented Stateful Inspection engine." "As the worldwide market leader in network security, with 61% of the Western European market, Check Point is pleased to have this opportunity to assure our customers - whether governments, banks or other businesses - that our products support industry standards and meet specified levels of certification," said Deborah Triant Rieman, president and CEO of Check Point Software Technologies, Inc. "This certification is particularly important to helping Check Point meet the needs of government organizations in Europe and the United States."
