CHECK POINT SOFTWARE TECHNOLOGIES ANNOUNCES VPN-1 PRODUCT FAMILY

Industry's Broadest Range of Offerings for Enterprise VPN Deployments; Only Integrated Family of Policy-Based Software and Hardware Solutions

REDWOOD CITY, CALIF., - July 27, 1998 - Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq: CHKPF), the worldwide leader in policy-based Virtual Private Network (VPN) solutions for the enterprise, today extended its technology leadership in the VPN market by launching the most comprehensive VPN solutions in the industry. The new Check Point™ VPN-1™ family of products empowers organizations of all sizes to conduct secure, reliable and manageable business communications over IP networks. The announcement makes Check Point the only vendor to deliver a broad range of flexible software and hardware VPN solutions that can be implemented across multiple platforms, integrated into an enterprise's overall security policy, and managed from a single central management console.

Comprising five solutions, Check Point's VPN-1 product family can be mixed-and-matched within an enterprise to meet ease of implementation and manageability requirements for all network access points including UNIX and Microsoft Windows NT servers, routers, switches, hardware appliances and other internetworking devices.

The VPN-1 family of solutions includes:

  • VPN-1 Software – A new software offering that incorporates Check Point's superior VPN functionality with the security features of its award-winning FireWall-1 enterprise security suite in a single package. Available in configurations for a variety of customer needs, from single-site, remote-office installations to multi-site, enterprise-wide deployments with centralized management requirements.
  • VPN-1 SecuRemote – Client-side encryption software to extend the enterprise VPN to desktop, remote, and mobile users.
  • VPN-1 RemoteLink – A plug-and-play hardware solution that integrates Check Point's new VPN-1 software. Developed in conjunction with Nokia IP, Inc., VPN-1 RemoteLink is available in multiple configurations for various size network deployments.
  • VPN-1 Certificate Manager – A shrinkwrapped certificate management system for Check Point's VPN-1 solutions, enabling scaleable Public Key Infrastructures (PKI), allowing organizations to quickly and easily deploy enterprise VPNs.
  • VPN-1 Accelerator Card – An optional add-on for all VPN-1 software this plug-and-play hardware PCI card for Sun Solaris and Windows NT platforms speeds VPN performance through acceleration of IPSec encryption. Supporting Ethernet and T3 throughput rates, the card accelerates both DES and Triple DES data encryption.

The VPN-1 product family extends Check Point's leadership in the VPN market, with over 8,500 networks worldwide using Check Point's current generation of VPN solutions. The VPN-1 family also builds upon Check Point's existing IPSec implementation within FireWall-1, which has already received ICSA certification, facilitating interoperability with business partners and customers. Unique to Check Point, the VPN-1 product family also delivers integrated support for LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) directory servers, providing effective user management and Certificate Authorities (CA) to enable scaleable deployment for enterprise-wide VPNs consisting of thousands of users.

VPN-1 Software: The New Standard

Check Point's new VPN-1 software is the most comprehensive policy-based VPN software solution on the market, enabling enterprises of all sizes to deploy intranet, extranet and remote access VPNs quickly and easily. Incorporating the award-winning security features of the FireWall-1 enterprise security suite, VPN-1 software enables site-to-site and client-to-site VPN capabilities through support of multiple strong authentication schemes including the industry standard RADIUS, and industry-standard IPSec encryption schemes including the standard for Internet VPNs, IKE (Internet Key Exchange, previously known as ISAKMP/Oakley).

VPN-1 software supports an open, scaleable Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) using X.509 digital certificates. Check Point's new VPN-1 Certificate Manager provides the technology to issue certificates and automates critical VPN functions such as adding and deleting users, managing encryption keys and providing encryption key back-up and recovery. Check Point's VPN-1 software also uniquely integrates support for LDAP-compliant directory servers, enabling organizations to manage an unlimited number of network users in a single directory.

Check Point's VPN-1 software is available in a range of configuration options, from single-site, remote office implementations to multi-site, enterprise-wide remote access, intranet, and extranet VPN deployments. At the high end, the VPN-1 software includes policy-based centralized management capabilities across multiple VPN-1 platforms including UNIX and Windows NT servers, routers, switches, appliances, and other internetworking devices.

VPN-1 Remote Link

For enterprise customers and Managed Service Providers that prefer a plug-and-play hardware appliance solution for their VPN requirements, Check Point has created VPN-1 RemoteLink, a standalone hardware solution that integrates Check Point's VPN-1 software with high-speed IP routing. Developed in partnership with Nokia IP, Inc., VPN-1 RemoteLink delivers superior VPN performance and high levels of security in an easy-to-use, plug-and-play box. This is the industry's only VPN hardware solution that can be integrated into and managed from an enterprise's overall security policy.

VPN-1 RemoteLink is easy to install and configure using Check Point's award-winning management console. Customers will have the choice of multiple configurations, supporting Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, T1/E1, T3 line speeds. In addition, VPN-1 RemoteLink also supports hot-standby configurations with support for load sharing.

VPN-1 Certificate Manager

VPN-1 Certificate Manager is a complete, shrinkwrapped certificate management systems that enables the deployment of PKIs based on industry-standard X.509 digital certificates. Based on proven, industry-leading Certificate Authorities (CA) technology in the Entrust/Alliance PKI product from Entrust Technologies, Inc., the VPN-1 Certificate Manager delivers a secure, scalable solution for managing encryption keys in enterprise VPNs.

Pricing and Availability

The VPN-1 software solution is available immediately with prices starting at $2,495 (U.S. list price). Check Point VPN-1 RemoteLink is available for orders immediately and will be available in the U.S. in August 1998, with prices starting at $2,995 (U.S. list price) for enterprise deployments. The VPN-1 Certificate Manager and VPN-1 Accelerator Card will be available in the fourth quarter of 1998, with pricing to be announced.
