Meta IP Enables Centralized Management of Multiple DNS and DHCP Servers and Easy Management of Configuration and Zone Files NETWORLD + INTEROP, Las Vegas, Nev., May 11, 1999 (Booth #8279) - Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: CHKP), the worldwide leader in secure enterprise networking, today announced enhancements to Check Point Meta IP 4.1 that extend the power and flexibility of the Meta IP address management solution to Unix platforms. Available immediately, Meta IP 4.1 SP2 enables network administrators to easily manage multiple DNS and DHCP services running on Solaris and HP UX through use of either a Java or Win32-based user interface. Meta IP is also available for Windows NT. Meta IP for Linux and AIX will be available later this quarter. "With the addition of the Unix capabilities, the Meta IP solution is now the most flexible and powerful IP address management software in the industry," said Asheem Chandna, vice president of marketing and business development of Check Point Software Technologies. "Meta IP greatly simplifies the management of DNS and DHCP services in complex global networks, and through its unique User-to-Address Mapping (UAM) technology, provides the foundation for user-based and policy-based network management. With these enhancements, Meta IP now provides more services on more platforms that any other IP address management solution." Meta IP is an automated solution for managing IP addressing and naming across both single-site and large, multi-site networks. The Meta IP product includes an enterprise management service (Meta IP Admin Console), standards-based IP network services (BIND-compatible Dynamic DNS, RFC-compliant and fault-tolerant DHCP, and RFC-compliant RADIUS), and an open and distributed LDAP data store. The standards-based architecture frees administrators from proprietary-based services that limit an administrator's ability to manage the different services in cross-platform environments. Meta IP's management service, called the Admin Console, enables administrators to easily manage complex, global networks using a single user interface. Various "views" are available to facilitate management of different network services. The Service view shows which DNS, DHCP, and RADIUS services are hosted on which servers; the Locations view shows which services are installed by geographic location; the Name Space view shows which zones are managed by which DNS servers; and the Network view displays all the network and subnets within the organization. The Meta IP product also allows administrators to manage the DNS, DHCP, RADIUS, and UAM services from a single centralized location, or to distribute the management across their networks to sub-administrators. Administrators can also manage their networks from any location worldwide using Meta IP's Java-based browser interface. Meta IP also features the industry's only User-to-Address Mapping technology, which when used in conjunction with Check Point FireWall-1, enables transparent and automatic implementation of user-based security policies in networks with dynamically assigned IP addresses. The UAM technology "traps" the user login name, login time, IP address, and Media Access Control (MAC) address from the DHCP and domain controllers and makes the information available to FireWall-1, where security policies are implemented. The UAM data is viewed through the Meta IP Admin Console, and a historical log of key information is available for security and auditing purposes through an ODBC database.
Meta IP is offered in a Standard version for single-site networks with less than 1,000 nodes, and an Enterprise version designed for global enterprises with networks exceeding 1,000 nodes. The Enterprise version includes a RADIUS service, and provides centralized management and distributed administration of enterprise scale IP network infrastructures. Meta IP 4.1 SP2 is available today as a free upgrade to registered Meta IP 4.1 users through Check Point Software's Meta IP site at www.metaip.checkpoint.com.
