CHECK POINT SOFTWARE ENABLES FIREWALL-1 AND VPN-1 FOR NOVELL'S NDS

Novell Awards "YES" Certification and Joins the Check Point OPSEC Alliance

REDWOOD City, Calif. - March 22, 1999 - Check Point Software Technologies Ltd., (NASDAQ:CHKP), the worldwide leader in secure enterprise networking solutions, announced today that its FireWall-1™ and Check Point VPN-1 product families have been awarded Novell™ (NASDAQ:NOVL) "YES, Tested and Approved" Certification for Novell Directory Services (NDS), the worldwide leader in directory services. This certification assures that customers can deploy FireWall-1 and VPN-1 solutions in Novell NDS environments and manage user profiles and privileges from a single directory, eliminating the need for multiple directory databases. Novell has also joined the Check Point OPSEC Alliance which currently has close to 200 industry partners.

Using the LDAP interface to NDS, FireWall-1 and VPN-1 administrators now can manage across an enterprise within a single, hierarchical NDS directory. Security information such as user name and password, which is stored in NDS, can now be automatically accessed by FireWall-1 and VPN-1 modules to enforce enterprise security policies. With this certification, security administrators no longer have to maintain separate user databases for each security application, thus reducing management overhead and significantly improving overall network security within an NDS environment.

‘‘Achieving the Novell YES certification represents a significant advance for joint customers of Novell and Check Point Software," said Asheem Chandna, vice president of marketing and business development for Check Point Software Technologies. "Joint customers can be assured that FireWall-1 and VPN-1 can be seamlessly deployed and integrated within NDS environments. We also welcome Novell to the OPSEC Alliance and look forward to a close working relationship that advances the state of secure enterprise networking."

This certification furthers Check Point's commitment to open and de-facto standards like LDAP, extending its best-of-breed OPSEC strategy. Check Point's Open Platform for Secure Enterprise Connectivity (OPSEC) Alliance delivers an enterprise-wide network security framework through which customers can seamlessly integrate a full spectrum of security applications, all managed by a single, central enterprise-wide security policy.

"The large number of customers we see adopting NDS as their strategic directory are looking for innovative products like Check Point Software's FireWall-1 and VPN-1 to leverage their investment in NDS," said Steve Adelman, vice president of Novell Corporate Development. "We are pleased that Check Point's FireWall-1 and VPN-1 solutions are among the first to be NDS enabled and have won ‘YES, Tested and Approved' Certification."
