CHECK POINT SOFTWARE UNVEILS INDUSTRY'S FIRST SECURITY SOLUTION FOR USER-BASED SINGLE SIGN-ON TO THE NETWORK

Provides convenience to end user by eliminating need for multiple passwords in dynamic IP addressing environments REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - March 22, 1999 - Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq: CHKP) today announced that it has integrated its market-leading FireWall-1 and VPN-1 enterprise security solutions with its new Meta IP User-to-Address Mapping (UAM) technology, creating the industry's first security solution for dynamic, user-based single sign-on to the network. This integration addresses the network administrator's need for a solution that can match user identities and security profiles with IP network addresses that are dynamically assigned and constantly changing. For the end user, this integration provides the convenience of single sign-on to the network without the use of multiple passwords. UAM is a key technology within Check Point Software's Meta IP product, an automated solution for managing IP addressing and naming in enterprise networks. The UAM technology - for the first time - enables transparent and automatic implementation of user-based security policies in dynamic network environments. Previously, network security managers were forced to either employ a multiple logon scheme - once with the network operating system and again with the firewall - or compromise their security standards by setting policies based on IP addresses with no knowledge of which employee was at a given IP address. "Check Point Software is committed to enabling anytime, anywhere access that is secure, reliable and transparent," said Asheem Chandna, vice president of marketing and business development for Check Point Software Technologies, Inc. "Integrating UAM with FireWall-1 and VPN-1 allows administrators, for the first time ever in a dynamic network environment, to automatically and transparently implement security policies customized to the specific needs of each individual user or group of users." Utilizing Check Point Software's new user-based security management solution, access to specific applications or utilization of designated Internet services could be granted by user or by department. For example, access to financial applications could be permitted or denied on an individual or departmental basis. Increased Security Because the UAM creates a historical log that identifies users with IP addresses, Check Point Software can now uniquely trace any attempted violations of security policy to a specific individual. With more and more security threats coming from within the organization, the ability to track access by individual is of growing importance. The Computer Security Institute "1999 Computer Crime and Security Survey" showed that unauthorized access by insiders rose for the third straight year, with 55 percent of respondents reporting incidents. This functionality is especially important in large corporate intranets that implement dynamic IP addressing, making it difficult, until now, to automatically map users to IP addresses.
