Launches a New Company to Bring Internet Security to the Home Market

LOS ANGELES, Calif., WESTERN CABLE SHOW – December 14, 1999 – Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq: CHKP), the worldwide leader in securing the Internet, today announced that it has created a new company called SofaWare Technologies. The new company will adapt Check Point Software's market-leading technology to bring Internet security to home and home office users with broadband Internet connectivity.

"Today's broadband Internet access offers unparalleled speed and ease-of-use, but a quality, scaleable security solution is key for the widespread success of broadband technologies," said Gil Shwed, chairman and chief executive officer of Check Point Software Technologies. "By establishing SofaWare we leverage our proven Internet security technologies to make broadband connectivity easy and secure."

SofaWare will provide Internet security solutions to be embedded into customer premises equipment (CPE) such as cable and digital subscriber line (DSL) modems. Embedding SofaWare's patent-pending technology into these devices provides consumers and service providers with an easy, out-of-the-box security solution that does not require additional installation or configuration. SofaWare's first product, HomeSecure!™, is a residential Internet security firewall based on Check Point Software's powerful Stateful Inspection technology. In the future, HomeSecure! will support advanced capabilities such as virtual private network (VPN) and bandwidth management (QoS). SofaWare also offers a central, scaleable management tool that enables service providers to offer a variety of security services to their customers.

By establishing SofaWare, Check Point Software further extends its reach to the broadband Internet access market.
