CHECK POINT SOFTWARE UNVEILS VPN PRODUCT AND TECHNOLOGY ROADMAP

Virtual Private Network Leader Propels VPN-1 Family to Next Generation

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – April 12, 1999 – Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: CHKP), the worldwide leader in secure enterprise networking, today introduced its product and technology roadmap for Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) to address next-generation enterprise networking needs. Check Point Software's roadmap accelerates the company's industry leadership in VPN security, management, performance, reliability, scalability and interoperability.

"Check Point VPNs have become a critical building block for e-business communications across intranets, extranets and the Internet," said Asheem Chandna, vice president of marketing and business development for Check Point Software Technologies. "Check Point Software delivered the first VPN solutions and has led the industry in shipping products and partnering with other industry leaders to provide superior VPN solutions. Our roadmap sets a new standard for VPNs across the industry."

During 1999, Check Point Software plans to deliver solutions that fulfill the following five point VPN technology roadmap:

  1. Open PKI support for customer choice
  2. Intranet VPNs and transparent user-based privileges
  3. Integrated QoS for optimized VPN traffic
  4. High availability enabling transparent fail-over and reliability
  5. Scalable clustering for high-performance Virtual Private Networking

1. Open PKI support for customer choice:

Furthering its support for market-leading Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) technologies, Check Point Software intends to provide additional interoperability with leading PKI vendors to enable secure, manageable VPN deployments across global networks. In Q3 1999, Check Point Software will extend its existing PKI support, which now includes interoperability with Entrust Technologies, by adding support for VeriSign and Netscape PKIs. Support for Baltimore Technologies and Microsoft will follow.

In addition, Check Point VPN-1 deployments will uniquely be able to concurrently request, validate and use certificates issued from certificate authorities of multiple vendors. Companies implementing extranets with multiple partners where each partner uses a different certificate authority will especially benefit from this capability.

2. Intranet VPNs and transparent user-based access privileges:

Check Point Software will introduce "Virtual Private LAN" technology designed to enhance its ability to provide VPN communications, including access control, between application servers and clients within a corporate Intranet to provide security for sensitive information such as payroll, human resources, research and development, medical records, stock trading information and strategic plans.

Check Point Software will continue to integrate its unique User-to-Address Mapping (UAM) technology with its enterprise VPN solutions to provide user-based VPNs. With UAM, a user's login information can be used transparently to determine the individual's privileges and priorities for VPN communications and access to specific network resources without requiring multiple logins and passwords.

3. Integrated QoS for optimized VPN traffic:

Check Point Software will further improve the Quality of Service (QoS) for Internet-based VPNs by furthering its integration of FloodGate-1 with its VPN-1 solutions to provide intelligent bandwidth management for VPN traffic. The enhanced integration of FloodGate-1 will allow a single management interface to control all aspects of the corporate VPN, including traffic control.

In addition, Check Point Software will provide advanced compression technology that can improve utilization of Internet bandwidth by a ratio of 10:1. With compression technology incorporated into an enterprise VPN, companies can substantially enhance VPN traffic performance across both private Wide Area Networks (WANs) and the Internet.

4. High availability enabling transparent fail-over and reliability:

Check Point Software will provide unique transparent fail-over or transfer of VPN connections without loss of connectivity, based on Check Point Software's ability to synchronize IPSec IKE connections across multiple VPN gateways. If a VPN gateway system becomes unavailable during a session, the session will be transparently moved to another gateway, even across multiple geographic locations, maintaining the integrity of real-time communications and large data transfers.

In addition, VPN-1 SecuRemote, Check Point Software's client VPN software for mobile and desktop computers, will be enhanced with intelligent remote access. When initiating VPN sessions and the primary corporate VPN gateway system is unavailable, VPN client connections can be transparently shifted to another VPN gateway.

5. Scalable clustering for high-performance Virtual Private Networking:

Enhancements to Check Point Software's enterprise VPN solutions will enable organizations to distribute VPN communications among multiple VPN-1 Gateways for unparalleled performance and scalability. By intelligently load balancing traffic, organizations can scale their VPN-1 Gateways on Windows NT and UNIX platforms to support tens of thousands of concurrent VPN sessions and OC-3 data rates (155 Mbps).

Today Check Point Software provides the market-leading VPN-1 product family of solutions. The comprehensive product family includes: a) the VPN-1 Gateway software that integrates Check Point Software's market-leading FireWall-1 enterprise security suite with standards-based VPN encryption/tunneling technology and centralized management. The VPN-1 product family also includes b) VPN-1 ApplianceTM, a completely integrated hardware and software security appliance designed for both corporate and remote office deployments; c) VPN-1 SecuRemoteTM, the client-side VPN software for desktops and mobile computers; d) VPN-1 Certificate ManagerTM, the turnkey Public Key Infrastructure system solution for Check Point VPN-1 deployments; and e) VPN-1 Accelerator CardTM, the optional hardware card for acceleration of strong data encryption for T3 or higher speed access connections.
