REDWOOD CITY, Calif., and LYNCHBURG, Virginia, Feb. 12, 2001 - SofaWare Technologies, a Check Point Software Technologies (Nasdaq:CHKP) company, and Ericsson (Nasdaq:ERICY), the leading provider in the new telecoms world, today announced that Ericsson will integrate SofaWare's unique Safe@Home consumer firewall security software into their PipeRider(tm) HM204c/HM205c cable modems for global distribution. This new product line from Ericsson will provide the home user and those with home offices with the first easy to use, out-of-the-box solution for securing high-speed Internet connections and Internet devices in the home. SofaWare's Safe@Home is based on Check Point Software's market-leading security solution, FireWall-1, which has been licensed in over 186,000 business installations worldwide. "The combination of our PipeRider HM204c/HM205c cable modem and SofaWare's Safe@Home ensures peace-of-mind for the consumer and a way for the service providers to deliver essential value-added services to their customers," said Stephen Rapiejko, Vice President Product Management, Cable Access Terminals, Ericsson Home Communications. "We believe that meeting these security needs gives us a considerable market advantage as broadband grows globally." "We welcome Ericsson's decision to integrate Safe@Home, enabling service providers to fully manage and easily deliver market-leading security capabilities to their customers," said Sheila Aharoni, Vice President of Business Development for SofaWare. "This solution now enables consumers to protect their data from hackers and prying eyes." Unlike PC-based firewalls that only protect one computer, SofaWare's Safe@Home is the first comprehensive security solution designed to protect Internet devices within the home. This unique residential gateway approach allows protection for multiple PCs and laptops and other Internet-based multimedia devices. The Ericsson PipeRider HM204c/HM205c comes pre-installed with Safe@Home and conforms to the DOCSIS and EuroDOCSIS interoperability standards. There is a seamless upgrade path to more comprehensive security and access management solutions, including a version managed remotely by a service provider. This greatly simplifies installation, configuration and maintenance, as well as supporting value-added security services, such as security policy updates, family filters and other additional services that will be implemented in future Safe@Home software releases.
