Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) To Go Mainstream  with Check Point Software Next Generation

Sets New Standards for VPN Reliability, Performance and Scalability

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - May 23, 2001 -- Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: CHKP), the worldwide leader in securing the Internet, today announced its Next Generation Virtual Private Network (VPN) solution, part of a groundbreaking new version of its industry-leading VPN-1T/FireWall-1 software. Check Point's Next Generation VPN sets new standards for reliability, scalability, ease of use and performance -- readying VPNs for broad adoption by corporations of all sizes and enabling companies to dramatically reduce communications costs while increasing capabilities.

"The VPN market is exploding because customers realize the significant advantages VPNs offer, such as the ability to reduce communications costs, streamline IT resources, centralize remote management and scale networks as business needs grow," said Jeff Wilson, executive director at Infonetics Research. "Next generation VPN solutions are fueling broad corporate adoption of VPNs by making them more reliable, scalable, faster and easier to implement and manage."

Check Point has advanced its industry-leading VPN-1/FireWall-1 software to meet the next generation needs of customers with new features, including:

  • Automatic, Scalable VPN Set-Up - Check Point's Next Generation VPN introduces the ability to securely add VPN sites and easily increase scalability through a new and innovative approach that deploys digital certificates between VPN sites in an integrated and transparent manner.
  • Service Level Agreement (SLA) Management for VPNs - Administrators can access a complete view of VPN performance so that they can migrate mission-critical applications from private WAN to Internet-based VPNs. This allows administrators to make informed-decisions about where and how to improve network performance.
  • End-to-End Quality of Service (QoS) - Users are assured delivery of mission critical traffic over their Internet VPN with reliability that is equivalent to point-to-point connections or leased lines, and users with prioritized access rights can gain faster network access. These QoS advancements are achieved through Check Point's product innovation and support of DiffServ, the industry standard for IP QoS.
  • Intelligent VPNs for Networks with Multiple Entry Points - VPN users are assured continuous access to data and applications through resilient network access features that eliminate the need for redundant hardware. If a primary VPN-1 Gateway becomes unavailable, VPN-1 Gateways at other locations will be automatically be engaged to establish VPN connectivity to the corporation.

"More and more companies are utilizing the Internet as the backbone for their communications infrastructure, and customers are looking for ways to reduce costs while increasing their communications resources and network security infrastructure," said Gil Shwed, chief executive officer and founder of Check Point Software Technologies. "With Check Point's Next Generation VPN, we continue our security leadership and innovation and position VPNs for their next growth phase - broad corporate usage."

Product Availability
These new VPN advancements are part of Check Point's next major product release, called VPN-1/FireWall-1 Next Generation, scheduled to be available in Summer 2001.

Check Point has once again established a new paradigm in Internet security by allowing users to simplify VPN set-up and administration, optimize VPN performance and enable guaranteed reliability through end-to-end VPN QoS for greater control, improved security and enhanced ease of use.
