IBM and Check Point Announce First in Series of Integrated VPN/Security Appliances

Best-of-Breed Appliances to be Distributed Exclusively Through Tech Data Midrange


Stuttgart, Germany, and Munich, Germany - - August 2, 2002 - IBM Corporation (NYSE: IBM) and Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: CHKP), the worldwide leader in securing the Internet, today announced the first in a family of "Secured by Check Point" VPN/security appliances on the industry-leading IBM xSeries server platforms. The IBM x330 appliance integrates Check Point's VPN-1®/FireWall-1® Next Generation, the industry's most comprehensive security solution for protecting and connecting companies of all sizes. This integrated Check Point/IBM appliance delivers superior security and price/performance to enterprises and service providers and is available in Germany exclusively through Tech Data Midrange (NASDAQ/NMS: TECD).

The IBM x330 appliance has passed a rigorous testing process to be certified as "Secured by Check Point," ensuring optimal operation, interoperability, and ease of use. The integrated solution is based on Check Point's SecurePlatform, and delivers over 500 Mbps with a low total cost of ownership, making it an ideal solution to secure enterprise and service provider networks. Additionally, the IBM x330 appliance can be used in conjunction with Check Point technologies such as the SmartDefense Active Defense solution, ClusterXL™ performance clustering, and with complementary third-party OPSEC-certified applications to deliver a fully comprehensive security solution.

Pricing and Availability
IBM xSeries appliances will initially be available in Germany on the x330 platform, and will later include other xSeries platforms. Pricing will begin at Euro 4.500 and the appliance will be fulfilled through Tech Data Midrange.

The new "Secured by Check Point" IBM x330 appliance provides enterprise and service provider customers with a high-performance, secure and easy to deploy security solution at a low total cost of ownership.
