Firsts Reinforce Check Point Technological Leadership and Innovation
REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Aug. 14, 2002 - Check Point Software
Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: CHKP), the worldwide leader in securing
the Internet, today unveiled new technological innovations in
Check Point FireWall-1® for securing emerging web applications
and standards, including Internet Protocol version 6, Peer-to-Peer
and Instant Messaging applications and Microsoft Printer and
File Sharing Services, also referred to as Common Internet File
System (CIFS). Through its patented Stateful Inspection, Check
Point is the first and only vendor in the industry to provide
comprehensive security to control these applications.
"Continuing
our history of product leadership and technological innovation,
Check Point is again, setting standards by providing robust
security for emerging applications and advanced networking protocols,"
said Carol Stone, vice president of marketing for Check Point
Software. "By supporting IPv6 and securing emerging applications,
we are helping users maintain the highest levels of security
while providing employees, customers and business partners secure
access to information, applications and business processes."
Continuing
to raise the bar for Internet security innovation, Check Point
is the:
- First
security vendor to support Internet Protocol version 6, the
next generation Internet protocol, enabling customers to migrate
securely to IPv6
- First
to recognize and control Peer-to-Peer applications such as
Gnutella and Kazaa, in addition to popular Instant Messaging
services -- providing administrators with tools to efficiently
manage bandwidth and company resources
- First
to provide granular control over Microsoft File Sharing and
Printer services, allowing greater control over network resources
Internet
Protocol Version 6
Internet Protocol Version 6 is the next generation Internet
protocol, which resolves the growing shortage of network addresses
supported by IPv4. Enterprises are looking to deploy IPv6 technology
to accommodate the increasing number of devices connected to
the Internet to meet current and anticipated future demand.
Customers can be assured that as their network needs evolve,
Check Point solutions will inherently interoperate with current
and emerging standards.
Peer-to-Peer
Access Control
Traditionally, enterprises have not had the ability to identify
and control Peer-to-Peer applications traversing the firewall.
With other firewalls, Peer-to-Peer traffic is either blocked
altogether or allowed to pass through the firewall as simple
HTTP traffic, potentially allowing rogue or malicious packets
into the network. Check Point's patented Stateful Inspection
technology inherently recognizes and controls HTTP-based applications
and popular Instant Messaging products by enabling granular
inspection and access control of applications traveling through
the firewall. Check Point FireWall-1 maintains detailed application
information to deliver complete network protection.
Support
for Microsoft Common Internet File System
Microsoft Printer and File Sharing Services, also referred to
as Common Internet File System (CIFS), allows users to access
file and print servers over the network. Security administrators
are challenged with having to manage users access to corporate
resources to prevent shared servers from being attacked or misused.
Check Point has added support for Microsoft CIFS to provide
administrators with greater control over network resources and
the ability to manage users' network access.
These advances
further extend Check Point's stature as the leader in network
security and the provider of the industry's most comprehensive,
best-in-class security for complete network protection today
and in the future.
Availability
These industry "firsts" and other enhancements will be available
in the latest version of Check Point VPN-1/FireWall-1 Next Generation,
Feature Pack 3, in September 2002.
