that ParentMail, an Internet-based communications service for schools
and parents, has selected Check Point's market-leading VPN-1®
Pro integrated VPN/firewall solution to secure its IT infrastructure.
ParentMail enables schools to securely email news
such as dates for parent meetings, school trips and fundraisers
directly to parents, while also posting news on a bulletin board
that allows parents to access information via the Internet. The
service is free to schools and parents, while ParentMail derives
its revenues from sponsorship of its website and the emails distributed
to parents.
With a potential market of 30,000 schools in the
United Kingdom, the company's first concern is growth and the scalability
of its secure network infrastructure. To sustain the highest level
of protection during rapid growth, the company requires a security
solution easy to manage by a very small IT staff. ParentMail also
requires a high-performance solution that can stand up to seasonal
traffic peaks, especially as the number of participating schools
climbs.

service from PeopleWiz Limited. First piloted in the Cambridgeshire
area in June 2002 it was made available across the UK in early September
2002. To date, Nov 4th, ParentMail has over 1000 schools from across
the UK either using or about to implement the service. ParentMail
is designed to deliver mass messages such as newsletters and general
school/parent information. The service is offered FREE through the
use of paid for services such as email/site sponsorship and the
optional SMS text service that alerts parents to new school messages.
