Check Point Software Technologies LTD. Reports Financial Results for Third Quarter 2002

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.-October 17, 2002-- Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq: CHKP), the worldwide leader in securing the Internet, today announced its financial results for the third quarter ended September 30, 2002.

Net income for the quarter was $62.3 million, or $0.25 per share, compared to $64.7 million, or $0.26 per share (diluted) for the second quarter of 2002. Revenues for the quarter were $103.6 million compared to $108.6 million for the second quarter of 2002 . Total cash and interest bearing investments grew to over $1.2 billion as of September 30, 2002.

"Our third quarter performance demonstrated Check Point's Internet security market strength and business execution," said Gil Shwed, chairman and chief executive officer of Check Point Software Technologies. "Despite the macro-economic environment, Check Point continued to deliver solid revenue and earnings results, win significant deals, bring to market new solutions and execute cost-effectively."


Recent highlights include:

  • Independent Study: Check Point Leads in Performance & Price - In independent lab tests by Tolly Group for high-end enterprise firewall/VPN solutions, Check Point's $16,000 solution beat Cisco and NetScreen $65,000 and $35,000 solutions by a factor of 5 in real world VPN environments.

  • Extended Market Leadership - In an IDC study published this quarter, Check Point has extended its market share in the enterprise firewall/VPN software from 61% to 65% in the past year. In addition, Gartner, Inc. named Check Point a leader in two of its prestigious VPN and Firewall Magic Quadrant reports for the second year in a row.

  • New "Secured by Check Point" Appliances - Brought to market 10 new "Secured by Check Point" appliances with partners Nokia (NYSE:NOK), IBM Corporation (NYSE: IBM), Bivio NetworksÔ, Celestix Networks, Inc. and Intrusion, Inc.

  • Next Generation Active Security - SmartDefense - Check Point's new SmartDefense technology shipped this quarter and won the "Hot Pick" technology spotlight from Information Security Magazine. In addition, SmartDefense is now serving as a basis for the first comprehensive intelligence solution to combat cyber attacks through collaboration with the SANS Institute's Storm Center.

  • Expanded Global Partnerships - Enhanced the "Power of Two" alliance with Nokia to offer customers a "one-stop" shopping experience for unprecedented flexibility and choice in purchasing Check Point's market-leading security solutions directly from Nokia. Also began executing on worldwide agreement with HP to deliver end-to-end VPN/security solutions on multiple HP platforms.

  • NASA Commendation - NASA/Marshall Space Flight Center honored Check Point for outstanding support and superior VPN and SecureXL performance solutions that are enabling secure, reliable communication between the Space Station and numerous sites on Earth.
